THE EVENT: KING Boston raised $1.5 million during its King Legacy Night at the Museum of Fine Arts to honor the local legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, who met in our city. THE DETAILS: Nearly 700 guests, including King Project founder and co-chair Paul English, King Project co-chair Rev. Liz Walker and Mayor Martin J. Walsh, gathered to celebrate the late civil rights pioneer and continue his work. The event, produced by AJ Williams, began with a VIP reception in the Koch Gallery with Esperanza Spalding, who wowed the crowd with an eclectic jazz performance. THE HIGHLIGHTS: Tamron Hall emceed the program that opened with a tribute to Aretha Franklin by Taylor Dayne; Common surprised the crowd with a freestyle rap about civil rights. Guests had the opportunity to participate in a live auction before listening to a conversation about civil rights led by Hall with C.T Vivian, CNN's Bakari Sellers and Robert Lewis Jr. before an hour-long concert from Earth, Wind & Fire.
