Janet Yang Pillar Ceremony

On June 21, Janet Yang, Emmy Award and Golden Globe winning producer was celebrated for her outstanding work with the film industry and was presented with her own pillar inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, becoming the first Asian American to earn the honor. She has worked on Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun (1987), Netflix's Over the Moon (2020) and known mainly as the Executive Producer on the iconic and groundbreaking The Joy Luck Club (1993). 220 guests from Janet Yang's sphere of friends in Hollywood, the Academy, the Asian American Community gathered to celebrate Janet. Celebrity and notable guests included Daniel Dae Kim, Alex and Maia Shibutani, James Hong, Kara Wang, Alan Yang, Leonardo Nam, Lisa Henson, Oscar nominee Diane Warren, Jose Antonio Vargas, and Christine Ko . The Academy President David Rubin, Academy Museum Director and President Bill Kramer, and many Academy Governorsalso joined the celebration. This ceremony highlighted Janet’s work, but also spotlighted the AAPI community within the entertainment industry.
