Located on the site of the former Tolstoy family mansion, the hotel was built in 1928 - in the Art Deco style - by architect Henri Porteau. Shortly after its opening, it was bought by a Russian businessman who gave it as a wedding present to his beautiful French wife. They lived there for several years, entertaining the whole of Paris.
