The long-term exhibition at Palácio Pimenta, headquarters of the Lisbon Museum, located in Campo Grande, highlights the evolution of the city, from the occupation of the territory during prehistory until the end of the 20th century. The center is housed in a summer palace from the first half of the 18th century, framed by what remains of an old manor farm. Built between 1734 and 1746, at the request of Diogo de Sousa Mexia, a prominent figure during the reigns of D. Pedro II and D. João V, the authorship of the architectural project is unknown. Over time, the palace had successive owners, including Manuel Joaquim Pimenta de Carvalho, to whom the current name is due.
