Brussels City Museum

The Brussels City Museum, housed in a magnificent Neo-Gothic style building, is absolutely worth a visit. It is located on the Grand Place and thus in the historical heart of the city. Maybe you know the museum by the name of Maison du Roi in French? The building was recognised as a national heritage site in its entirety in 1936, as one of the first in Belgium. Together with the rest of the Grand Place, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. The museum therefore dedicates an entire room to the Grand-Place. The Grand-Place To Be sheds light on its history, heritage, daily life and much more. The museum’s collections are as diverse and varied as the history of the city itself. The oldest works date back to the Middle Ages, the most recent to the 21st century. The collection includes paintings, altarpieces, tapestries, models, porcelain, sculptures, town plans, archaeological finds, etc. They tell the eventful and fascinating history of the city. You will also find the original statue of Manneken Pis here. And just a few steps from the museum you will find his extensive wardrobe. Entrance to the GardeRobe Manneken Pis, located at Rue du Chêne 19, is included in the museum ticket. The ideal opportunity to check out his enormous costume collection.
