Café Pastry Gamberini (Café Pasticceria Gamberini)

Gamberini 1907 is the oldest pastry shop in Bologna. It was opened in 1907 by Giuseppe Gamberini under the evocative porticoes of via Ugo Bassi 12 (previously 28), near the exclusive Grand Hotel Brun and the large Mercato delle Erbe , a covered market that still exists today. It soon became a much loved meeting place in the city. In Bologna, it is said of how the scent of hot brioches filled the surrounding streets, creating long queues of people, waiting at the back door for the first batch to be baked. After numerous changes, in 2005, Alessio and Antonella Conti and Paolo Maino took over the management of the restaurant - initially as consultants, with CMC srl.
