About

Originally built as a Methodist congregational chapel at the turn of the 1900s, in 1955 it was bought by Birmingham City Council and used as a civic hall. It later became a music venue and has become an essential part of the city’s live music and club scene, as the original home of Godskitchen and other leading club brands. In 2010 the building underwent a full £4 million refurbishment, restoring some of the building's original grand architecture and increasing the total capacity of the venue’s three rooms to 2,400. The exterior of the building boasts six statues situated on columns across its façade, with each statue a mighty 1.65 meters tall. Compromising of three venues, O2 Institute Birmingham has the power to house the brightest and biggest acts, and over the last 30 years, this legendary venue has seen performances from Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Arctic Monkeys, and The Cure and more recently hosted shows with Lapsley, PVRIS, Bear’s Den and Kano.
