Experience Tucson's history at the Tucson Presidio Historic Museum. Walking tours and rentals also available.
At this re-creation of a Spanish fort built in 1775, experience a 150-year-old classic Sonoran Row house to see how houses were built before the railroad brought in the new building materials of that age. See archaeological remains of a pit house in the ground, and learn about the lives of early Native Americans. Our docents will take you on a tour of the Presidio Museum where you’ll discover how Tucson residents lived before air conditioning and cell phones. Kids of all ages can try out Presidio-era kids games in the box on the Territorial Patio and try on the cuera, the Presidio soldier’s version of chainmail, in the soldiers’ quarters. During our many Living History events, visitors enjoy demonstrations of blacksmithing, food preparation, and also see historical re-enactments, and soldier drills. For more information, see https://tucsonpresidio.com/living-history-days-cultural-events/. The museum is also known for its many historic and Downtown murals and public art walking tours. We have preferred vendors we can suggest, but any catering company is welcome to serve food at our venue. We do not have a professional kitchen, so all food must be prepared off-site and brought to the museum.
The Presidio can provide 150 chairs as well as eight 6-foot rectangular (seat 8) and eight 5-foot rounds (seat 8). Linen rentals are strongly suggested for these tables. Presidio staff will set up these tables and chairs and break them down at the end of the event. Any other facility and event needs must be rented and delivered by a third party. This includes linens, heat lamps, stanchions, sound equipment, pedestals and altars. Local party supply vendors can be provided.
