About

Built in 1688 by a French soldier, Auberge Saint-Gabriel is the first "inn" in North America to receive the first alcohol permit in the country on March 4, 1754. In the 19th century, it transformed into a private hotel. In 1914, it became Auberge Saint-Gabriel again, thanks to Ludger Truteau, to regain its original vocation. It was acquired by the Bolay family in 1987. This place is steeped in the history of Quebec, hidden beneath these heavy stones. For example, the Truteau room used to be the former Beauchemin printing press at the beginning of the century, the very one that printed the newspaper Le Patriote! Also... Just below, at the Velvet, there was a former fur trading post.
