HOTEL HOFGUT HOHENKARPFEN

On the Baar plateau of the Swabian Alb between thevillages of Hausen ob Verena Gunningen and Seitingen-Oberflacht lies the 912 m high witness mountainHohenkarpfen. Only a few kilometres away from Hohenkarpfen is the Albtrauf the northwest-facing steepslope of the Swabian Alb with the Dreifaltigkeitsberg and another witness mountain the highest mountain in theBaar the Hohenlupfen. The Counts of Lupfen once maintained a castle complex on the Hohenkarpfen. The former dairy at the foot of the Hohenkarpfen was built over 300 years ago from the ruins of the knights castle Hohenkarpfen which was destroyed in 1643. Today the Hohenkarpfen is a popular destination for excursions due to its picturesque conical shape and the view over the Baar landscape and into the Black Forest. The summit area has been under nature conservation since the 1930s. After years of being run as a farm the restaurant was first opened in 1978 after a total renovation. In 1989 the former barn was converted into a hotel. Since then the listed estate Hofgut Hohenkarpfen has been known as an attractive venue for conferences and weddings. The estate is also popular for recreation and relaxation. Its fascinating surroundings are a great attraction for young and old alike. The Hohenkarpfen Art Foundation with its focus on 19thand 20th 20th-century landscape painting from the German southwest is known beyond the region. In addition art symposia with contemporary art have been very popular in and around the Hofgut Hohenkarpfen since 1996.
